As 2017 comes to a close, it’s a perfect time to reflect. I can’t believe how much has changed for me this year. It all began at the beginning of the year when I found out I was 1 of 50 people, selected out of thousands of applicants, to be an O Mag Insider.
I honestly couldn’t believe it. I had applied a couple of months before on a whim, while I was reading O, The Oprah Magazine and saw the application. It was literally a 5-Second Rule moment (if you’ve read the book, you know what I’m talking about). I didn’t even think about it, I just felt that I had nothing to lose.
I have been an Oprah fan since her first episode aired on TV in 1986. I followed her career and loved her messages about taking ownership of your life, forgiving others, and following your passion.
Soon after I found out I was chosen, I was immediately connected to a group of people who were motivated, positive, and kind. It was as if I found a tribe of individuals who had similar goals and attitudes.
Around that time, I realized that I had wanted to move across the country for over 30 years. I fell in love with California 32 years ago and always daydreamed about moving there. Was I always going to just wish for it for the rest of my life?
With my newfound confidence and sense of needing to break out of my comfort zone, I decided to just go for it. Both of my girls were in college, and my husband and son were definitely up for a new adventure.
Driving across the country to start a new life was the most daring thing I’ve ever done!
As a result, I’ve opened myself to new opportunities, new friendships, and new experiences. Although I miss my family terribly, I know that I’ve done the right thing.
Several days ago, I found out I was chosen for an Influence O-ward from O, The Oprah Magazine for driving real engagement and awareness for the O Mag Insiders group!
What an incredible way to wrap up the year! I’m already creating goals and a vision board for 2018. It’s time to stop limiting myself with fears and doubts and realize the long-held dreams that I’ve wanted for myself.
This year’s theme was adventure. Next year, it’s FEARLESS!
