Marvel Studio’s 10-Year Anniversary

On April 27, 2018, the opening of Avengers: Infinity War marks the 10-year anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s hard to believe that it’s been ten years since Ironman kicked off this mega movie franchise.  Robert Downey Jr., as Tony Stark, was a blockbuster hit and spawned two sequels. In addition to those, the Marvel movies included: Spider Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, to name a few.

Who knew back then that Ironman would lead the way in building a powerhouse of a franchise that has since spawned 18 films and more than $12 billion dollars worldwide at the box office! In the following video, Ironman’s director Jon Favreau wasn’t even sure how audiences would react to his movie.

Some Marvel purists were upset when Walt Disney Pictures bought Marvel Enterprises in 2009 for $4 billion dollars and worried that the buyout would hurt the authenticity of its characters and stories. In this video, you can see just how important the fan base is to the success of these films, so it’s no surprise that Disney’s buyout didn’t adversely affect the franchise. They wouldn’t risk offending Marvel’s fan base.

Additionally, the latest Marvel film, Black Panther, was a blockbuster gold mine ending up as the #1 grossing superhero film in the United States and #3 globally. Marvel Studios is on top and I, for one, cannot wait to see all of these superheroes team up to defeat the enemy Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

Last October, a 10-year anniversary Marvel “class photo” was taken on the set of Avengers: Infinity War that included 80 stars from all of the different Marvel films.  In this last clip, you can see the actual making of that epic photo.
