Hi there! My name is Rachel, and I’m a Mom, Teacher, Blogger, Fitness Specialist, and Author. As a Brand Ambassador for O, The Oprah Magazine, I am a strong advocate for living my best life and continually learning and growing as a person. Oprah Winfrey has inspired me for more than three decades!
Being a mom of three children, ages 24, 22, and 12, I like to share my trials and errors as a parent, which I also share as a contributor for the Thrive Global. As an educator for 20 years, I give some insight into what I’ve seen work in the classroom from both perspectives.
On a side note, I studied dance for more than 20 years and cheered for the Miami Dolphins for two years. Because of my dance experience, I transitioned into a fitness professional, working as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer for a decade. I have extensive knowledge in fitness and healthy living, especially since being diagnosed with hypothyroidism and gluten intolerance.
Even though I’m a full-time middle school teacher, blogging has given me an outlet to share my experiences and connect with other women (and men) who are trying to juggle it all. I have to say, it has been quite a rewarding and fulfilling experience!
I recently completed my 200-hour RYT Yoga Certification and am working on my Ayurveda Specialist Certification. In addition, I am writing my first book, Parenting Teens in a Digital World, with the goal of publishing in the fall of 2020.
In 2017, I won an Influencer Award from O, The Oprah Magazine for driving real engagement and awareness for the O Mag Insiders group. In 2018, I was voted by my O Mag peers for one of three O Mag Teamwork Awards for helping create a community within the program. Because of that, I was able to attend Oprah’s Favorite Things Event in NYC! I’ve spoken at the Bloggy Conference in Ohio, where I spoke about landing and navigating a brand ambassadorship, and recently led a training on Mindfulness and Meditation for the Washington, D.C. organization FutureFIRST.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and Journalism from Florida State University and currently reside in Los Angeles with my husband, children, and 15-year old pug named Lucky.
