What did you want to be when you were a little girl?
When I was young, I used to dream of being a dolphin trainer. I thought that looked like the coolest job in the world. Secretly, I still think it is.
What are some different jobs you’ve had in your life?
My first job was a lifeguard for a Southern California water park called Hurricane Harbor. I had several other jobs including working at the malls as a teen and for a home loan company in college. But, I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was 20. I have successfully opened several start-ups, including one that I sold to a publicly traded company before I was 30.
What do you work toward in your spare time?
In my spare time – ha! Thatʼs a funny question because as a mom to five young kids and an entrepreneur, I donʼt have much spare time. I do try to carve out time to escape with my best friends, and I also love to read.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I am most definitely a night owl. My husband is an early bird, but we usually compromise so we actually see each other.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my parenting. I work really hard to raise honest, kind, and compassionate humans. And, with some of the trauma a few of my kids have endured, itʼs definitely not an easy task. But, Iʼm so incredibly proud of all the hard work my husband and I have put in because I have five of the most incredible kids. They are my everything!
What are you known for?
Iʼm known for my salted browned butter double chocolate chip cookies. Although, truth is, itʼs my friend’s recipe.
What inspires you?
Iʼm inspired by others who love and share their truth. I think itʼs vital to connect with each other in this world. We can learn so much about ourselves and the beautiful world we live in.
Tell me something about you that most people don’t know.
Most people donʼt know that I was pregnant at 20 and that I never graduated college.
Why did you apply to become an O Mag Insider?
I applied to become an #OMagInsider because Oprah has been an incredible inspiration in my life. She stands for what is right, speaks her mind, sheʼs a smart businesswoman and she surrounds herself with good people. She also isnʼt scared to share hard truths about her life. I was hoping being an O Mag Insider would help motivate and inspire me to be more like her.
How do you live your best life?
I live my best life when I slow down and take time to breathe, relax, be grateful, and truly love in the present moment. Lifeʼs pretty incredible when I do that.
What are you reading now?
I actually just received a copy of The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton, and Iʼm loving it!
What’s a day like in the life of Amber Myers Mamian?
My days are pretty busy. I wake up at 5:30 am and workout with my husband. If we are lucky, we sneak in a cup of coffee while the kids are still sleeping and the house is still quiet.
Around 7 am the chaos begins. During the school year itʼs breakfast, make lunches, do the girlsʼ hair and get out the door ASAP. Drops offs at three different schools, and then I head to the office where I work until about 2 pm when the kids get out.
My husband is always super helpful; we are definitely a team. With a family as big as ours, we have to be.
Evenings consist of sports practices, playing with the kids, dinner, baths, and bed.
I also travel A LOT! Mostly with the family. But I also travel solo too. Typically when I need to travel alone, my mom steps in and helps my husband with the kids.
