Occupation: I am currently the builder for our new home ( the #yantacountrycottage), and am also a micro-influencer and marketing consultant.
What did you want to be when you were a little girl?
When I was little, I was definitely different from other girls in my class. I loved dresses and tea parties, but I also loved bugs and my microscope I got for Christmas. Science always fascinated me, animals in particular, and I wanted to be a scientist!
What are some different jobs you’ve had in your life?
I wear many hats! A majority of my career was spent working with Hearst Media, but I always blogged, and still do, for AnnaAlyse.co on the side! I joined the Hearst team as a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Copywriter and would write copy for clients’ websites, landing pages, social media, and sometimes print ads.
From there, I moved up the ladder until I was the Multimedia Marketing Strategist for major accounts. I got to work with brands and businesses to create marketing and advertising plans that encompassed print, digital, and even guerilla tactics! After a campaign launched, it was my responsibility to keep an eye on all metrics to ensure money was well spent and clients were meeting, or exceeding, their goals. I’m all about the numbers!
Although I learned a ton with Hearst Media, I chose to leave the company in 2015 and started my own water color painting and design business, Honey Bunny Paperie. I created logos for wedding planners and photographers, designed bridal shower invitations, and more! This business, although still open, has been put on hold because of my most recent job – builder of our new home! (I told you there were many hats! Ha!)
My mom and dad and brother all built their own homes, and my husband and I decided to do it too. Because my husband, Erick, works full-time, I am on the construction site and running around town trying to get everything coordinated, purchased, delivered – whatever is needed – for our subcontractors. It is by far one of the hardest, and most rewarding, jobs I’ve ever had.
Beyond that I’ve been a product photographer, event planner and coordinator, marketing consultant, and even a lumber yard cashier at Guadalupe Lumber Company! The list could go on and on!
What do you work toward in your spare time?
In my spare time I work towards not working. Ha! I do the things I WANT to do, not have to do, like enjoy brunch with my husband or play soccer with my niece and nephews. Taking a little bit of time for yourself and your family is needed to recharge and keep relationships with yourself and your loved ones healthy. Besides, the laundry will still be there in the morning.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I am an early bird! I feel like my day is wasted if I sleep in late – my late being 8:00am! Haha! Pour me a cup of hot tea or a good latte, and I’m ready to conquer the world!
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my close-knit family. Growing up, I always had plenty of playmates because my cousins lived right next door! I loved that so much that when my husband and I decided to start hunting for our property, we were lucky enough to find land right down the road from my parents’ and my brother’s homes… And even though my sister isn’t on our block, every Sunday we have Sunday Supper at my mom’s house to catch up. I can honestly say between them and my husband, I have an amazing support system and group of friends to share memories with, and for that I am proud and grateful!
What are you known for?
I’d have to say people think of me as the go-to party planner and decorator. Tell me what the event is and I’ll have the decorations, menu, and FUN planned in no time!
What inspires you?
Nothing gets me inspired quite like a hater. (Hahaha!) When I left my job at Hearst Media and started working as a blogger and influencer, there were some people who told me they thought I didn’t have a real job, or just assumed that since I stayed home I had all this free time! (I WISH!) Those comments alone really got me going and today I’ve interviewed the CEO of Beyond the Label worked with a ton of brands (Werther’s Caramels, JORD Watches, Chinet, ClassPass, NYDJ Jeans, and more), became an OMag Insider (Yasssss!), and was even on the cover of the San Antonio Weddings Magazine! Bye, Haterssssss.
Tell me something about you that most people don’t know.
I LOVE to cook! In fact, before changing my mind and pursuing an English Literature degree, I was enrolled in a culinary arts program. If I ever went back to school, it would be for that!
Why did you apply to be an O Mag Insider?
When I was younger, I always enjoyed watching Super Soul Sunday with Oprah on TV, so it was natural that I also enjoyed her magazine. As I was reading, I saw the opportunity to join and decided to give it a shot. I honestly didn’t think I would get chosen because many of my personal views do not align with the magazine’s. (I tend to be more conservative.) But, I am really grateful I was chosen because it is so important to be able to experience other vantage points, without any hate, judgement, or violence, and at the end of the day, after seeing both sides, if you still feel differently about an issue, then that is ok. You accept it, remain open-minded, and move on.
How do you live your best life?
I live my best life by starting each day with a thank you to God! It’s easy to forget that family, good health, and a steady job can be gone in an instant. Being grateful and humble, and recognizing your blessings, can go a long way in creating a positive attitude and outlook in life.
What are you reading now?
Whiskey in a Teacup by Reese Witherspoon! I love reading about her family’s southern traditions and comparing them with my own Texas ones. Besides, a girl can never have too many biscuit recipes, right?!
What’s a day in your life like?
My alarm goes off at 5:45am and then it’s off to make breakfast, put laundry on, and put away any dishes from the night before. From there, I almost always meet my Momma for something caffeinated. It’s like our own morning ritual we’ve created. (Current obsession being a London Fog Tea Latte!) After the caffeine kicks in, I either, 1) get errands done and then head to the new home construction site, or 2) Head straight to the new home construction site and do any errands from there. (Ex – Yesterday I found out our disposal needed a different flange so I had to go hunt one down!) By the time all of that is done and I eat lunch, it’s usually around 2:00-3:00pm. I head back to my current home to tidy up – or sometimes binge watch Vikings or Atypical (Haha!) – and then get started on making supper.
