Meet O Mag Insider – Corinne Schmitt!

Age: 46

Occupation: Blogger

What did you want to be when you were a little girl?

Until I was 9, I wanted to be Wonder Woman. I thought this was a legitimate career option and even wore a Wonder Woman outfit under my clothes and practiced my spinning costume change daily from age 4-6. Then, I went through a phase where I did a 180, and instead of wanting to devote my life to saving others, I wanted to be a CEO. I blame the 80’s, Madonna, and the movie “Working Girl.”

In college, I met my husband and he threw my CEO plan off track. He was passionate about being a U.S. Marine and that lifestyle was not conducive to my plans to climb a corporate ladder. As it turned out, my real life ended up being way better than my little girl dreams, and I eventually became a little bit of both dreams – CEO of my one-woman business helping other moms feel like superheroes. You might notice how my Wonder Mom mascot bears a striking resemblance to my childhood hero.

What are some different jobs you’ve had in your life?

I worked my way through high school and college with a number of part-time jobs: house cleaning, bakery worker, waitress, receptionist, customer service, library clerk, office clerk. After college I worked in marketing. Then, I did some software training and I served as an adjunct faculty member for a college, teaching business courses. After my son was born, I became a full-time mom and didn’t even think about working again until my youngest was about to start school.

What do you work toward in your spare time?

I’m always chasing at least a dozen different goals, but they’re all related to being a better version of me. Being healthier, happier, and more helpful to others. Whether it’s learning something new, exploring a new location, or meeting new people, I want to feel like I’m making progress each day towards being someone I love and respect and making others feel that way too.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

100% morning person. It takes me twice as long to complete a task after dinner compared to if I tackle it before lunch.

What are you most proud of?

My children. Everything I accomplish is achieved because of the example I want to set for my children. Each of them has far surpassed my hopes for the people they would become. Despite the many mistakes I make as a parent and the difficult life we’ve subjected them to as a military family, they are blossoming into truly wonderful individuals who are kind, witty, compassionate, and strong. Most of this comes from within them, but I am proud of the small part I’ve played nonetheless.

What are you known for?

I suppose this depends on who you ask. I’m a real dichotomy in many ways, so some people know me for being outspoken and outgoing, while others know me for being extremely shy and introverted. I’m complimented for my intelligence as much as I am playfully teased for my ditziness. For every person who describes me as generous, I suspect you’ll find another person who views me as selfish. All these sides are equally me. Depending on the situation and people involved, different characteristics surface in me. So, perhaps what I’m really known for, is being difficult to figure out!

What inspires you?

People who live life like no one is watching. The man who loves singing and belts out his favorite song with his car window down. The woman who starts dancing in the store when her favorite song comes on. Anyone who chooses happiness when they can, without letting worry or self-consciousness stand in the way. These courageous individuals make it easier for others to be themselves too, and their exuberance is often enough to spread happiness far and wide.

Tell me something about you that most people don’t know.

Most people guess I’m part Filipino, but not many people know I’m one-quarter Native American.

Why did you apply to be an O Mag Insider?

I have always admired the positive influence Oprah has on the world around her. I wanted so badly to be a part of a group that collectively, could carry forth that energy and spirit of helping to make the world a friendlier, happier place. I knew the group would be full of people who were supportive, proactive, and sincere. What a unique and exciting opportunity to be a part of something extraordinary. There was no way I wasn’t going to apply! I needed to take the chance (slim as I thought it was) to connect and learn from these inspiring women.

What are you reading now?

Right now I’m finishing up The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. It’s a suspense thriller that’s a quick read since it’s hard to put down once you pick it up. Next up is Expert Secrets by Russell Brunson since I try to balance my brain candy with self-improvement/education.
