Age: 54 years young
Occupation: I’m a Senior Court Clerk in the New York State Supreme Court by day, and a Blogger and Content Creator 24/7
What did you want to be when you were a little girl?
I actually wanted to be an architect and an interior designer when I was a little girl. My best friend and I would spend countless hours in her basement pouring over her mom’s Better Homes and Gardens and Decor magazines.
I was also obsessed with the structure of my childhood home. It had three floors, a huge balcony on the top floor, a sun porch on the first floor, and a basement with all types of secret rooms. I’m sure this is where my love of building structures began. I still dream of being an architect somedays. Although I live in a NYC apartment currently, I hope to design my own dream home soon.
What are some different jobs you’ve had in your life?
My first job was as a receptionist at Dean Witter Reynolds..a huge financial company in NYC. I’ll never forget the time I spent there. I learnt so much and met so many amazing people. I would go on to become a Real Estate Agent, a Network and Computer Engineer, and a Highway and Bridge Engineer/ Inspector. I’ve worn many hats on the road to finding myself.
Every time I think about the numerous, not just jobs, but careers I’ve had over the years, I chuckle. It reminds me of my dad, who passed away eight years ago. He would always tease me about it and would say things like “is there any job that you haven’t had?” He always got a good laugh out of it…I miss that.
What do you work toward in your spare time?
My spare time is basically all-consumed by blogging these days. I’m either writing content, taking photos, or planning my next steps. I do try to fit in some of the things that I love, like reading and taking walks in my neighborhood, but not nearly enough.
What I absolutely make time for, is planning my getaways. I don’t think there’s anything that I love to do more than travel. The process of planning the trip is so exciting, and at times very educational and relaxing.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I don’t feel like I’m a morning or a night person, since I haven’t mastered either one (chuckles). It varies from day to day.
What are you most proud of?
You know for the longest time I would say my children, but at this point in my life I would have to say my perseverance. I’ve been a single parent in my thirties..and a single woman in my fifties. I’ve endured many encounters with sexism in the workplace, and the loss of quite a few family members. I am so thankful for the God-given strength that I was able to pull from…deep inside of me.
What are you known for?
Cracking jokes and always laughing. I love to to have fun. Laugher is like medicine…it heals.
What inspires you?
It’s real simple for me..I’m inspired by life and all its intricacies. There’s inspiration in everything. It doesn’t hurt that I live in NYC…a place where you’ll find almost every race and culture of people residing. When you have so much culture surrounding you, like I do, and people bringing their way of life and living into the mix, everyday outside of my home is packed with inspiring moments.
Tell me something about you that most people don’t know.
I’m a country music lover.
Why did you apply to be an O Mag Insider?
The main reason why I applied to be an O Mag Insider is because I’ve loved Oprah Winfrey from the moment she stepped onto the world stage. She’s not only one of the most talented, smart and influential women of our time, but her number one goal is to empower and uplift others…O’mazing! I can’t think of a better community to be a part of. I thank God I was chosen.
How do you live your best life?
I live my absolute best life by constantly working on bettering myself. The better I am, the better service I can be to my family, friends, and the world.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Becoming by Michelle Obama of course!
What’s a day in your life like?
I rise and grind. That usually includes making myself a healthy breakfast..a green smoothie or an egg white omelet, spinach, and a few slices of avocado. Then I’m off to my nine to five..that place that I’m so blessed with, that currently pays all my bills. I incorporate working out somewhere in there most days, whether inside the gym or out.
My evenings always include working on my blog in some form or fashion. I’m either editing photos, writing, or checking out the back end of my site…the tech stuff. Sometimes, the days when I’m feeling like a morning person, I’ll get up super early and do some social media stuff, and just take a moment to relax and breathe before my day gets started.
