Meet O Mag Insider – Lisa Zimmer

Age:  Today I feel about 41, but yesterday I felt about 62. Just like my weight, I don’t pay attention to the numbers. I go by how I feel; if my clothes are tight, I watch my diet. If I feel old and tired, I focus on getting healthier. Google me if you need my chronological age. 😉

Occupation:  If you were to title me, I suppose I could be called an Intuitive Coach or Host of my podcast Unlimited Realities; or Writer or Author; or Seminar Facilitator.

When I was in my twenties I wanted to move through ignorance quickly, so when a guy asked for my business card, my title was “Metaphysical Consultant.”  If they stumbled over my title, I knew I could walk away confidently knowing we’d have little to talk about. I feel the same way today about titles…they offer little insight into what I do, without sounding completely obnoxious.

What did you want to be when you were a little girl?

I have always wanted to be a teacher. My father did not want to pay for my college as a teacher because they did not make enough money. That was his logic. So I attempted to put myself through college, but after overcoming a doctor’s diagnosis of my infertility, everything changed when I conceived my first child and school became a back burner thought. So I continued building my business where I could be a full-time mom and work around building my Intuitive Consultation business.

What are some different jobs you’ve had in your life?

At 13 I was forbidden to work, but my friends were all allowed. I wanted money, so I hitchhiked (not safe kids) to a new seafood restaurant where I bussed tables. I had a close call getting home safely one night, and quit, taking the fear as a warning. So instead, I started a business at 13, where I went to the houses in my neighborhood and arranged to wash their screens and windows in their home for $30 a house. It was a great experience and I made mad cash, but it was hard work. My parents did not know I was doing it until my reputation proceeded me, and neighbors were raving about my work. I mean, what could they do at that point? My grades weren’t suffering, so I continued until I started working at Bealls Department store at 16 years old.

That led to me becoming a preschool teacher at a Christian preschool, getting additional schooling and certifications, and then a PE teacher for a private Christian school.

That experience of living in poverty and having $25 left a month to splurge on, led me to running our family’s construction company as the office manager, making twice my salary from preschool and enabled me to travel every six months to Jamaica. That took me to several other construction companies, modeling, and finally my current business which was always running behind the scenes during my day jobs. I modeled, was in commercials, and played extras in movies and TV shows. I was a stand in for Eva Mendes in Fast and the Furious. I had a TV show called Unlimited Realities with Lisa Zimmer, just like my current podcast called the same thing. I have published Guided Imagery Visualizations and am always creating new workshops and seminars for myself, others, businesses or events. In addition, I wrote articles on metaphysics for magazines and had an astrology column for Gulfshore Life.

What do you work toward in your spare time?

I just finished writing my first book called Digging Deep~ Excavating Your Intuition.

I also recently created a new seminar platform that brings in metaphysical approaches, tools, and insights but in a more digestible way for the more conservative businesses to teach team building and bonding. I want everyone to understand the value of listening and understanding to their inherent sixth sense of intuition. So if I need to come in through the back door of analytical thinkers…then that is what I plan to do. I am currently having a lot of fun teaching myself screenwriting as I have a plethora of stories, my own and my family to draw from – think Downtown Abbey meets Shameless – it should be some funny stuff! 😉

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I tend to be a morning eat the worm person..I get more done by noon than most in a day. I also have been known to awaken around 2 or 3am to work on an idea or dream I just woke up with, and then go back to bed around 5:30 until 7ish.

What are you most proud of?

My children without a doubt.

Then, I am most proud of myself, my mind, my compassion, and my choices.

What inspires you?

Life. Simply, everything can inspire me.

My go to favs are nature, children, and animals…it’s where I find the most organic authenticity.

I am also deeply inspired by music, specific musicians, Oprah Winfrey, art, poetry, wise souls, my kids, and humor and food always inspire me. I like to dabble in numerous creative ventures, so if I eat a great meal at a restaurant, I will go home and duplicate it from taste. If I am inspired by a view, art ,or nature, I may go home and try to paint what feels good to me…I do not have one inspiring area. I love so many elements of inspiration that I really just find randomly throughout every single day.

Tell me something about you that most people don’t know.

What most people do not know about me is something I really haven’t talked about much at all in my life, maybe because it was a difficult but just decision I have had to digest. At 20 years old, I walked away from a modeling contract because three months earlier I had a near-death experience from a drug overdose. I quit drugs cold turkey at that point, but I was still vulnerable to its influence. It was the 1980s in Southwest Florida, and Escobar was still pumping Peruvian pink into Miami. I knew I was going to be around partying and drugs. Sure, some models may have been able to avoid this, some maybe had such support they never saw it, but I wasn’t naive. I knew I was fighting an addiction, and I also knew I wasn’t strong enough to be around that environment. So at a pivotal time in my life, I decided to put everything into creating a full-time business to support me, which I did. I even supported myself as a single mother doing work I loved. That gave me purpose.

Why did you apply to be an O Mag Insider?

I actually had a letter scratched out to OWN when I saw the ad in O Magazine to become an Insider. I was going to pitch an idea to OWN for a TV show, or a podcast show…yup, that’s the truth.

How do you live your best life?

I thank God before I get out of bed, for blessing me with all that I know and all that I am. I let God know I am nothing with our connection~ then I intend every part of my day. I also just filed for divorce to increase my own happiness.

What are you reading now?

I am actually re-reading (something I do often is re-read great books) How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci by Michael J. Gelb.

I also have numerous books I thumb through daily, either for inspiration or information.

What’s a day in your life like?

I wake up around 6am and say my gratitude prayer to God. I usually meditate before I get up to make my cappuccino with foam and a nip of chocolate – not too much to overpower my coffee taste. 😉

Then I begin answering clients’ texts and emails. They know not to call me unless it is their appointment time, because sometimes folks do not realize how many people’s problems I have to deal with daily.

Then I do my inspirational posts on social media – Instagram, etc.

Then I either take a bath before clients, or I dive in early with clients; I work with anywhere between 2-6 clients a day. I used to try to cram more in, but these days I am needing to put less people in a day because of the problems that are coming up lately in clients’ sessions, which are at times quite intense. I finish work by 3pm most days, some days earlier but I never reveal my schedule to clients because they all want an appointment yesterday, and there is only one me. I cannot do quality work if I do not put my needs first. I have learned the hard way on this lesson. Then I may take another soak in my tub after clients to release all of their sessions.

Afterwards, I go clean the house, make dinner, feed my cardinals outside, take Apollo my dog outside, and have dinner. And yes, if I have not had my second bath yet, I go back into my sanctuary and float some more while processing, releasing, reflecting, or meditating my way to bed.

In bed, I watch TV, and read to fall asleep.
