Occupation: Teacher and Blogger
What did you want to be when you were a little girl?
A professional dancer and singer
What are some different jobs you’ve had in your life?
My first job was at The Limited when I was 16 years old – I can fold clothes like a boss! From there, I’ve worked as a chocolatier and gift basket maker, ballet teacher for little ones, a ballroom dance instructor for Arthur Murray, a receptionist, waitress, NFL cheerleader, fitness instructor, and personal trainer.
What do you work toward in your spare time?
I work towards being a better version of myself in all aspects of life.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Definitely a morning person! From the time I wake up at 5:30am until bedtime (around 9pm), I’m going full throttle. I work hard and sleep hard! LOL! I used to be a night owl before I had kids.
What are you most proud of?
My three children – ages 23, 20, and 11. They continually make me proud because they are kind and compassionate human beings who are actively working towards their goals. They are each blessed with unique talents, and I support them in everything they do.
What are you known for?
I’ve always been known for my strong work ethic and positive attitude.
What inspires you?
My parents. They both had difficult childhoods with many adversities and somehow managed to raise a strong loving family. My mom and dad always put their kids first and made a lot of sacrifices for us. Their resilience and kindness inspire me everyday.
Tell me something about you that most people don’t know.
I was in the movie Ace Ventura: The Pet Detective! If you blink, you’ll miss me in the final stadium scene, but I was one of 15 Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders who were on set for two days of filming. It was a blast. I was standing on line for lunch when Courtney Cox came over to talk to me for about 20 minutes. Talk about surreal!
Why did you apply to be an O Mag Insider?
My mom and I always joke that we both have degrees from Oprah University. She and I religiously watched Oprah’s show from the first episode in 1986 until the last. Oprah embodies everything that I admire. She taught me that life is not a destination but a journey and to travel through it with an open mind and compassion for others. I also respect her for her courage to push beyond the naysayers and critics and prove them wrong in such a HUGE way! Her determination to fulfill her destiny is astounding to me.
How do you live your best life?
By continuing to push myself out of my comfort zone. It took me a long time to learn, but I can see how rewarding it is. Being a part of the O Mag Insiders has connected me with a tribe of people who inspire and support one another on a level I never even knew existed. For me, being selected as an O Mag Insider was like winning the lottery. I feel like it was “Oprah fairy dust” that drew me into this group.
What are you reading now?
Educated by Tara Westover and Homer’s The Odyssey (for class).
What’s a day in your life like?
During the week, I’m up between 5am-5:30am, make breakfast, pack lunches and get out the door with my son by 6:45am. Then, I teach until 3:45pm, drive home, workout a couple of times a week, eat dinner, get some things done on social media, email, or my blog, and go to bed between 9-9:30pm. On the weekends, I sleep in until 7am (LOL), then spend time with my family, work on my blog, clean, do laundry, and grade papers. This year, I’m saying YES to a lot more opportunities and adventures, so every weekend is different!
